President Ascot Place Joined the Board in 2007 and is now in her 3rd term as our President.  Teresa brings to the Board a wealth of analytical skills, budget expertise, business acumen, leadership, organizational know-how, project management skills and strategic insight.  She keeps our meetings focused, efficient—and fun! .

Skyline Blvd

Joined the Board in 1995 and wins the award for longest tenure.  She is both tireless and relentless in keeping Marjorie Saunders’ Park beautiful, blooming and free of invasive, non-native plants.    She also created a partnership with Joaquin Miller’s Ecology Club which partners regularly with PPNA to learn and help restore our open spaces.  We can still hear Marj Saunder’s advocacy through Elaine.

Treasurer

Burton Dr

Joined the Board in 2006.  She has been our Treasurer for many years.  Her background and knowledge as a CPA help us keep our revenues and expenses in line.  Nancy’s whole family helps get each year’s dues payments recorded and deposited.  In 2012, she transitions from Treasurer to Secretary.

Carisbrook Dr

Joined the Board in 2004.  She has been active in city politics for decades.   As a Realtor with Alain Pinel, her knowledge of ordinances that affect our residents has been invaluable in helping us develop effective strategies and partnerships with city officials.  As Nominations Chair, she is always on the lookout for new talent and energy for PPNA’s Board.

Ascot Dr

Joined the Board in 2004.  He now chairs our Utility Undergrounding Committee.  His skills as a lawyer and mediator were instrumental in getting PG&E and the utilities to squarely face and mitigate the project’s roadblocks.  He has also coordinated PPNA events and forums for candidates and city officials to discuss important issues with our members.

Joined the Board in 2009.  His passion for local schools and other family-friendly initiatives makes him a perfect fit for PPNA’s vision and goals.   He is our liaison to Montclair Safety and Improvement Council and will help build our Montclair Organized Neighborhoods.

Secretary

Joined the Board in 2009 as our Secretary.  In 2012 she transitions to
an At Large director.  She believes in rolling up her sleeves and pitching in wherever she can.  We value her creative approach to discover new revenue sources such as sponsorships and advertising to help us offset expenses.

Joined the Board in 2011 and, as a member of our Revenue Generation team, became a valuable resource in interesting sponsors to offset expenses for our Annual Meetings.

Joined the board in 2011 and is PPNA’s new liaison to our three local schools, replacing Stan Weisner.  She helps organize our Annual Meetings and is on our Revenue Generation team.  She pitches in on beautification and other projects as often as she can.

Joined the Board after retiring as our District 4 Councilmember in 2003.  When he and Jean moved to Alameda in May 2010, he was elected Director Emeritus and now lends us his vast experience as a consultant. 

Administrator

Mastlands Dr

Joined the Board in 1999 to beef up the organization’s infrastructure and communications.  She became the association’s Administrator/Consultant in 2010.  She authors e-newsletters, responds to your e-mails, and fills in wherever she’s needed. 

 

 

Role of Board Members

Members of the PPNA Board of Directors have the fiduciary responsibility of managing the Association.  PPNA’s effectiveness is largely determined by the Board’s business decisions.  A minimum of four (4) and a maximum of fifteen (15) members are permitted by our By-laws, composed of four (4) Elected Officers, and up to eleven (11) Directors.  See reverse side for descriptions.  All Board members serve for three years.  They may be re-elected for additional three-year terms upon approval by a majority of the Board, with ratification by Members at the next general meeting.

To help candidates for Board positions determine what is required of them, the following are considered minimum expectations:

    • Attendance at and participation in up to twelve (12) monthly Board meetings per year (2 hrs/meeting, 3rd Monday evening of each month).  Members who miss more than three consecutive meetings without good reason are asked to resign.
    • Attendance at and participation in all PPNA community meetings, generally two a year.
    • Have the time and passion for active leadership of at least one initiative that advances the goals of the Association, or active participation in management duties of the organization.
    • Active recruitment of PPNA residents to get them involved with Association activities.
    • Comprehension of the terms of the Association’s By-laws, especially regarding Board responsibilities.
    • Some proficiency in the use of computer software programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and a valid E-mail address.

    Board Position Descriptions

    Officers: President

    The President presides over all meetings of the Members and Directors.  He/she signs all contracts and written instruments that have been first approved by the Board of Directors. He/she calls the Directors together whenever deemed necessary and, subject to their advice, directs the affairs of the Association and discharges such other duties as may be required.  He/she appoints all committees and is an ex officio member thereof.

    Officers: Vice President

    The Vice President exercises the duties and assumes the authority of the President in the President’s absence, and serves as an ex officio member of all standing committees and project teams in his/her absence.

    Officers: Secretary

    The Secretary is responsible for making certain that the records and minutes of the meetings of the Board and the general membership meetings are properly recorded and distributed in a timely manner.  He/she maintains records of meeting attendance, and performs such other duties as may be delegated by the Board.

    Officers: Treasurer

    The Treasurer is responsible for the Association’s financial affairs and the establishment of proper accounting procedures for the handling of the Association’s funds.  He/she is responsible for keeping the Association’s funds in such banks and/or investments as are approved by the Board.  Through the Finance Committee the Treasurer reports on the financial condition of the Association at all general meetings and meetings of the Board, and at other times when called upon by the President.  He/she creates a budget for each fiscal year for review and approval by the Board.  He/she is a member of the Finance Committee and performs such other duties as may be delegated by the Board.

    Directors

    Any member who is a resident within the boundaries of PPHA is eligible to be elected to serve as a Director on the Board with full voting privileges.  He/she performs such duties as may be delegated by the Board.
