Two areas in Piedmont Pines got some significant clean-up attention during Earth Day 2006. One was in Marj Saunders Park and the other was in Castle Canyon. Elaine Geffen, who planned the Marj Saunders Park event said, "I
included the picture of the man with truck because the guys had so
much fun dragging big branches and limbs down to the dumpster. They
cleared some downed limbs that were an eyesore in the neighborhood!
The branch in the picture was merely a twig compared to what they
dragged down!" At the same time 20 volunteers also gathered at Castle Canyon on Earth Day to clear fallen trees, shovel mud-packs that resulted from the New Years flood, pull non-native plants and haul out garbage. In just over three hours, an entire dumpster and two recycling bins were filled with the results of the team's hard work. Kudos to Jeff Sharp for organizing the Castle Canyon effort. This was great follow-up to the work he led last fall when his team hauled out over thirty tires as part of their Creek To Bay Day clean up.
