Piedmont Pines Neighborhood Assoc

Goal: Achieve 100% Neighborhood Organization for Emergency Preparedness and Crime Prevention Throughout Piedmont Pines

Objectives

  • Complete an inventory of existing neighborhoods organized and trained to respond to emergencies
  • Expand C.O.R.E.* trained volunteers in neighborhoods throughout Piedmont Pines
  • Expand Home Alert/Neighborhood Watch trained volunteers in neighborhoods throughout Piedmont Pines
  • Establish a network of C.O.R.E. and Neighborhood Watch/Home Alert neighborhoods for Piedmont Pines, with a leader designated for each neighborhood

*C.O.R.E.: Citizens of Oakland Respond to Emergencies, a community involvement and training program sponsored by Oakland Fire Department.

Background

C.O.R.E. is operated by Oakland Fire Department, and concentrates on emergency preparedness. CORE involves three levels of training:

  • C.O.R.E. I—individual and family preparedness
  • C.O.R.E. II—neighborhood emergency response
  • C.O.R.E. III—hands-on training

Home Alert/Neighborhood Watch is coordinated by Oakland Police Department. Use the Flyer on this site To find out how you can establish a Home Alert group in your neighborhood, or call the City of Oakland Community Services Section at 510-777-8555.

For an updated schedule, or to register for C.O.R.E., go to their Web site or call Harriet Wright at(510) 238-6351 or e-mail core@oaklandnet.com.

It all begins with organizing your neighborhood, whether it be for emergency preparedness, crime prevention, traffic & pedestrian safety, or just socializing. Piedmont Pines' own Robbie Neely has created a Montclair Organized Neighborhoods Leaders Guide that spells out specific tasks to take to organize each neighborhood in our Association. The City also offers Block Party Guide (a PDF file) to help you set up your own event.
